Why we love

Make-A-Wish…

Hello, everyone! My name is Avery Doucette, and I currently have the honor of serving the Iota Kappa chapter of the Chi Omega sorority as the Make-A-Wish Chair. I love Make-A-Wish because it allows us have a big impact on the Wish kids of Alabama. Hosting Wish events allows Troy Chi Omega to grant wishes for these special children. Wish events are always very rewarding, not only to the children but to us as well. it lets my Chi Omega sisters connect with our Wish kids and their families in order to see the impact we are creating!

Over the last year, Iota Kappa was able to raise over $36,000 for Make-A-Wish Alabama. This money was used to grant four wishes for children all over our state! At Iota Kappa, we like to add our own twist to make the wish experience even more special by throwing the children a “Wish Party” in our house.

In order to help make these wishes come true, we raise money each semester by hosting several events during our philanthropy week. Some of our recent events have included a donut wall, a pancake dinner, a lip-sync battle, and several spirit nights!

Making Wishes Come True

One of the greatest joys of our philanthropy is our Wish Parties. Not only does it get the child excited about their wish being granted, but it gives the family an opportunity to see their kid get to be a kid. We had the great honor of being able to host a very special little girl, Cara in our home. Her wish was to visit Jurassic Park, so we went all out dinosaurs!! Cara has the most precious soul, and our sisters loves spending time with her and her family. She opened presents, ate cake, and got to run around with her siblings and our sisters. The house was filled with dinosaur roars, fun music, and belly laughs for the entire party. We had a blast with our Dino-loving girl!

Luke’s Wish Party

In the Spring of 2023, we hosted a Wish Party for Luke! Luke is obsessed with trains and went to Colorado to ride on a real one! We loved getting to meet his precious family and play with him! He also took a fascination with the plastic cups we had out, so of course we had to build cup towers with him. He had a blast with his Hot Wheels track and had all the girls racing to see who was the fastest. What a special day to spend with Luke and his family!

Wish Week

WISH WEEK!!! Every Chi Omega’s favorite week of the semester. Even though we are raising money for Make A Wish Alabama (MAW) throughout the year, we have one week every semester dedicated specifically to this cause. This week is filled with spirit nights, pop-up events around campus, and one main fundraiser. We partner with local businesses in our community who donate proceeds from one night when people participate. Some of our previous favorites have included Chicken Salad Chick, W Walnut Cookie Co, Hooks BBQ, Echo Nutrition, and The Confetti Crate. Pop-up events around campus can range anywhere from selling cute Troy stickers to Pie-A-Chi O (yes, we love MAW so much that we get pied in the face)! Our main event is typically a double bracket sporting event, us Chi O’s are competitive!! In the Spring we hosted a kickball tournament, and, in the Fall, we did volleyball. Wish Week holds such a special place in our sisterhood and is a big part of what makes us who we are. Serving our community and making an impact on such deserving families is truly a joy!
